Random Facts About Me:

I am an avid Instagrammer! I am going for a project 366! Check out my feed at jessicabender. All of the above images are IG masterpieces. Okay maybe not masterpieces, but I like them.

I love popcorn. I could eat it every single day. I have a number of food allergies and intolerances, which makes my diet quite restricted, so popcorn is a real big treat. Yeah, a treat that I eat every second day.

I was born and raised, and currently live in Victoria BC, Canada.

This year I learned to cross stitch. I am currently working on my third pattern, I find myself strangely addicted.

I have two children; Everly and Matthew. They fill my days with some of the most beautiful moments I have ever seen, and some of the most sick and twisted too.

I think that I like to relax, but really I don’t. I like the idea of relaxing. I last about 3 minutes in a hammock before I start looking around for something to do.

I’m addicted to sunglasses. I wear them year round. When I was younger, my Nana told me to wear them so that I didn’t get wrinkles from squinting. Annnnd, thank you Nana! At 30 years old, I have not one little squint mark in sight. Woo-hoo, ha ha.

I married my high school sweet heart. We will have been togehter for 16 years this December. Again, some of the most amazing moments ever, and some of the most sick and twisted too, LOL.

This year I started a garden. We grew a ton of peas and beans (yep, the stuff that first graders can grow). Currently we have two pumpkins growing on our plant, I am nursing that baby like crazy, but I am prrrrrety sure neither one will make it. I have new and improved plans for next year.

I only have one eye. You will notice that when I shoot, I don’t have to squint my left, that’s because it’s not real! Ha ha!

Booster Juice Citrus Swirl is hands down my most favouritest drink ever. If you think that favouritest is not a word, you have obvioulsy not tasted the citrus swirl.

In October, I am going to Kauai with one of my oldest friends (friends for oh, 17 years, not too shabby). I am BEYOND excited. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii, and so did my mom, who passed away last year. So I feel like this will be a very special trip.

I received my first camera when I was 8, it was a gift from my grandparents. It was pink and took 110 film. I took sooooo many pictures of my dolls in fancy poses. I need to hunt those photos down! I was in love with that camera. From there I went to a Kodak Advantix which I thought was pretty cool. Photography 11 introduced me to a Pentax 1000. And then I bought my very own Pentax MZ 50, complete with a zoom! Oh yeah, a whole additional lens. SO EXCITING. When I was on vacation in Europe, I stood next to someone shooting with a Nikon. The sound of that shutter had me salivating. Upon my return home, I bought a Nikon F50 and I photographed the CRAP out of things! I actually took some really nice portraits. In the meantime, I was seduced by digital, I actually won my first digital camera in a photography contest. It was a Fuji. I ended up going through two versions of Fuji point and shoot digital cameras. I still used my trusty F50 when I wanted to take really nice shots though. In 2006, I bought a Panasonic Lumix point and shoot. The Nikon took a backseat for a while- this camer had video. VIDEO, can you believe it? LOL. I bought my first digital SLR in early 2007, as I found myself constantly frustrated with shutter lag whenever I wanted to take a really good picture with my point and shoot. I purchased a Nikon D50. I had that camera up until last year. Trusty little workhorse. I upgraded my Lumix to a newer model when I had my daughter, finding that I didn’t have room to take the D50 with me on all of our travels, nor did I want to risk using it at places like the beach and waterparks with an extremely active baby. I upgraded my lenses for my D50 (once I learned about lenses, lol), and the camera body worked great until one day, when the sensor just bit it. Oh darn, I found myself having to upgrade to the Nikon D700. A-HA! Then I got to see the true images that my full frame lenses could achieve (I was given really good advice when I was upgrading lenses). I now use my D700 for pretty much everything, typically with my 50mm f/1.4, you’ll see. Oh, and my iphone. But I won’t photograph your session with my iphone (well maybe a quick snap for Instagram).
